children's portraits maine

We all get stuck. Sometimes just in our own head. I often get stuck there. Not sure which direction to go next. Wondering if I will be here for a long time. It happens to all us all. At different times and for different reasons. But it feels the same. Like slogging through mud with hip waiters on. Like trying to swim in a pool of gel. Sometimes I am ok with it. Sometimes I find it infuriating.

I started to get all these ideas though. I got them slowly over the last few months. I wrote them down and just kept waiting. I kept taking notes. I signed the lease for my new studio. It was supposed to be really exciting. And it is. Except that it's also terrifying. What if I fail? What if no one comes? I don't book any sessions and people stop paying me to do the work I love? I keep going into my new studio and realizing I am completely frozen. Stuck.

I am on a cliff. The big edge of something. I know it. Every time I am stuck I come out of it. Often with a renewed sense of excitement for my work and fresh ideas. I know I am close.

In my travels of collecting ideas I remembered this session with my daughter two summers ago. And that there were images I liked. So I pulled this one out and played with it. Consider this a small introduction to the direction my work will take. I love stories. I always have. I believe an image should leave you wondering what the story is.

Family Portrait Session at Orchard Hill Farm in Cumberland Maine

The October portrait mini-sessions were really fun. Here are some of my favorites from the

Orchard Hill Farm

session with the Duffy family. Such sweet little girls these two are. They did a lot of giggling and got along great!

I love some of Maggie's smirks. Such a four year old! And I adore Teagan's freckles. Her parents were surprised to see how old she looked in these portraits. I always feel the same way when I look at portraits of my Charlie quickly time has flown. How clearly we can see it in portraits.

I look at any children's portraits I have taken and my heart hurts just a little for what I know as a parent that I feel as well. Your heart is totally on the outside of you when you have a child. That is why I love capturing these memories for families. I know how it feels to love your little ones SO much.

In life and love - Jen

the now i lay me down to sleep organization is amazing and so very important. it gives precious memories in the form of photographs to those that have lost a child before they ever leave the hospital. if you have ever known anyone who has lost a newborn baby then you may have some small idea about how important these images will be.

i have a friend who had that unimaginable thing happen to her. i met her several years after the death of her first son who was 3 weeks old. she had a beautiful daughter when i met her and then another son. however every year on the anniversary of his death it opens the wound anew. having my own daughter i can't even fathom what these families endure.

therefore i would like to participate in this years event in the name of garrick and for my friend kim.

i am excited by the fundraiser and hope that we can help raise more than the $44,000 that was raised by all the participating families last year. you can learn more about the details at the charity model foundations website basically you sign up to have beautiful fun photographs of your child (ages 0-18) and then i enter one of the photographs into the competition for you. you can then have friends and family (and anyone you meet on the street for that matter!) sign up and vote. each vote costs $1 and the money goes right to the NILMDTS organization. if your child wins there will be a savings bond and gift cards!!

you can email me at jendean@jendeanphoto for more details or to sign up. i sent this out this morning and have already had people sign don't wait! the deadline for entries is march 16, 2012.
