family portraits

Broadturn Farm, Scarborough Maine, Family Portrait Session

In the fall Maine is exceptionally beautiful. I wanted to make sure that I offered family portraits at a location that would capture the foliage and be fun too! I did a lot of research and came up with a list of great locations. I plan on using some of them in the future for sure. This year I picked

Broadturn Farm

. They have weddings there in the fabulous old barn, they offer CSA's, and organic produce and amazing flowers as well. You should make it a plan to stop in there if you haven't already. It's a really great place with a lot to offer. There are some trails to walk in the woods which is always fun too!

It also turned out to be the perfect spot for roaming around and taking family portraits. Here are a few of my favorites from the session I did with the Kierstead Family. This little Callie peanut was SO cute!! She is turning one soon and she is the perfect age for capturing those sweet little chubby cheeks that leave so quickly as they get older.

I have some other family sessions I will be posting soon as well.

I usually offer these sessions in the spring and the fall. I may be adding some studio mini sessions for families as well soon. In the meantime keep an eye out for the newsletter, blog, and Facebook posts I use to announce these upcoming sessions. They are just 20 minutes long so they are quick for the family and lots of fun!!

Why choose custom photography?

Why choose custom photography?

When you make an investment in photography, you want it to last a lifetime. Custom photography is an experience and an end product in which you get to choose the style and final look of your portraits. There are many factors that ultimately make up your final portraits. These may include the photographer’s style, location of your portrait session, clothing, props, lighting, mood, your vision and the final products you desire.

Photographers that offer custom photography have many different options available to you that fit your style. Most custom photographers have a very distinct style that helped you decide to chose them. They have the ability to make your experience tailored just for you as opposed to the chain store time limits and crowds.

Imagine getting your family dressed and ready for your portrait session. Usually that is the most stressful part of any of my sessions. Then you come and meet me and I am ready to go. With family sessions, we are usually done in less than an hour. I have had many dads tell me that was pretty painless and thank me for making it sooo easy and not stressful. Mainly, this is because we have talked before the session and I know what direction we want to go and have it mentally planned out.

Custom photography requires a level of commitment, an investment in time, money, and planning on the part of the client and requires a larger time commitment for the photographer as well.

Next month : How to choose your custom photographer.

family portraits at pine point beach...again

there is nothing better then this job except when you get to add personal friends. i was so excited when this family i know signed up for our 'day at the beach shoot' (see earlier posts about this fundraiser i did with nadra from nadra photography). they are such a sweet and happy family. we always love meeting them at the playground and hanging out. here are some of my favorites from the day together...

smith family photos

nadra photography hosted a fundraiser she calls 'day at the beach' every year at least once and sometimes twice. this year the funds went to the maine cancer foundation. most all of us know someone who has personally experienced the effects of cancer so this money will go to further cancer research right here in maine.

the smith family wanted to do some traditional family shots and then some fun stuff as well. i did photos of everyone in groups for a little more formal photos (not stuffy though) and then playing together. we decided to change it up and not do it on the beach. here are a couple of my favorites.

Beach Portraits for Nichols Family

for the last few years nadra (of nadra photography) has done a fundraiser for various charities by offering mini-portrait sessions at the beach aptly called 'day at the beach'. this year the fundraiser was for the maine cancer foundation.

i will be posting photos from these sessions as i finish them. we were rained out on the original date so we had to reschedule all the sessions for week nights for several weeks in a row.

here is one session that i just finished editing. adorable girls; all!

cape cod with charlie

while we were in the cape i took the opportunity to take a few photos of my own family. here are some shots of charlie chatting and singing while on a skateboard ramp she spied in the yard of the skyfield bed and breakfast . the bed & breakfast had miniature horses, sheep, peacocks, chickens and an african gray parrot. charlie loved it! and so did we...

cape cod, mother & son

i always get to work with great people. a previous client tells a friend of theirs and then they call...thank you emily for passing on my name to susanne. i actually remember meeting susanne at emily's wedding a few years ago. how time flies! anyway, susanne really wanted photos of her two sons on this little beach called 'loop beach' near her parents condo in the cape. so she called...here are the photos that we were able to take of one son since the other was very sick that day. poor thing. we plan on doing a second shoot soon to get the whole family!

i love this sweet gesture that we often see. a mother's hand on her baby's back while he snuggles in close.

lucas is two!

here are some shots from the latest photo shoot at ft. williams with one of my favorite families! emily and shawn were a bride and groom from one of my weddings a few years ago and they have become close friends. just how i like it! they live about a ten minute walk from my house. in fact this morning we went to feed the ducks together....but, i digress. emily is pregnant with a little girl! yah!! and lucas just turned two a few months ago. so here are some of my favs (though it was hard to choose). they are just all so cute! look how beautiful miss pregnant em is!

i love that i caught lucas walking by and looking lovingly at mama...
